Now a world renowned archaeological site, Pompei and Ercolano were buried following the eruption from Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

The excavations began in the 18th century and gradually led to the discovery of fabulous villas with their beautiful frescoes still intact, an amphitheatre, baths and so many other buildings which are a testament to the prosperity of this once thriving metropolis.

Paestum, which was founded by the Greeks from Sybaris, some time around the 6th century B.C. and was later colonized by the Romans,. with its imposing Greek temples, is one of the Italy's most famous archaeological sites. The sight of the magnificently conserved golden temples dedicated to Neptune, Basilica and Cerere, is an unforgettable one.

The city of Naples has a rich and varied history. Its many monuments reveal the splendor of its past. The National Museum has a important collection of artefacts taken from Pompei and Ercolano, as well as invaluable collections of porcelain, ceramics, bronze, mosaics, etc. Plan a trip of more than one day to fully appreciate all that Naples offers: the Royal Palace, the piazza Plebiscito, the Maschio Angioino (castle), the San Carlo theatre, the church of Santa Chiara and the many other churches which are such of part of the culture of Naples.
