Positano – Historic retreat of the ancient Greeks and the Roman nobility is a hugely popular beauty spot, noted for its lovely Moorish architecture and unbelievable site. Its enchanting town center of delightful pastel-hued houses surrounds the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, its laneways are lined with quaint, colorful shops and its numerous beaches are world famous.
Sorrento is a gracious town, rich in local tradition, history and natural beauty. It was already a favourite destination of the ancient Greeks and Romans and the signs are still visible today in the “Antiche Mura”, the remains of the old Greek city walls. on which the Romans built their own walls and fortifications and which were used during medieval times. The centre of Sorrento offers many buildings of historical interest such as the “Basilica di S. Antonino” which dates back to the IX century, the cloister of S. Francesco which was built at the beginning of the 19th century and the SEDIL DOMINOVA, the only testament in Campania to the ancient noble seats.
Capri, an island rich in natural and architectural beauty which has been the home for Roman Emperors, Italian Dukes and now a favourite haunt of movie stars and jet setters attracted by the luxurious hotels and houses on the hillside. The Island’s many attractions include the Blue Grotto, a 54m long sea-cave that is bathed in an ethereal blue light, the impressive remains of Emperor Tiberius’ Palace and the Medieval Monastery of Certosa di San Giacomo, the beautiful Villa San Michele of Dr Axel Munthe – famous Swedish writer – and the Gardens of Augustus from where one can enjoy a breathtaking view of the ‘faraglioni’ and the Marina Piccola. Not to be missed is the coffee break in the ‘piazzetta’ or the shopping in the via Camerelle!
